Category Descriptions

Best Home of the Year: Integrated Home of the Year (by price range)   Top
This is for the best whole-house installation that includes home control as well as other electronics throughout the home such as distributed audio and video. Remember, this does not mean the biggest house, it means the "best." Please tell us what makes this whole house install unique and worthy of the "Best Home of the Year." Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Fun Room/Rec Room   Top
Just what it says -- fun! We've seen bowling alley rooms, disco rooms, indoor pools, and much more. If it's fun -- we want to see it. Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Outdoor Space   Top
The "other room." There is a footnote to this one: If this space is not in a warm climate and you don't already have professional photography already, we will not be able to consider it for this year because we wouldn't be able to photograph the install this winter. Submit it for next year though! We are taking into consideration all submitted last year. Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Master Suite   Top
This can be just the bedroom or a combination of bed and bath (closets, etc.). Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Media Room/Family Room   Top
Fun and games, movies and family gathering -- a multi-purpose room (there is a separate area for dedicated home theaters). Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Dedicated Home Theater (by price range)   Top
The dedicated home theater entries are broken into price-ranges. We know this is difficult since you might have been involved with some, but not all of the project. The price of the theater should include the electronics, seating, acoustics, build-out and labor (pretty much the whole thing). If the space was an existing one, and no new build-out was needed, please note that. This serves our reader best. Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Themed Home Theater (no price range)   Top
Our readers love seeing themed home theaters! This is not broken into price ranges, but please do provide us with the final price. The price of the theater should include the electronics, seating, acoustics, build-out and labor (pretty much the whole thing). This serves our reader best. Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Before & After   Top
A new category this year. Sometimes the project you are working on shows a dramatic difference from when you started to the final outcome. We need to see the "before" pictures as well as the "after" pictures for this one. Share with us what the homeowner asked of you and the lifestyle benefits they are now enjoying since completed. Share with us any challenges you faced during the installation as well as how you overcame them.

Best Amazing Application   Top
Perhaps you did not equip an entire home or even a complete room with home technology, but you want to boast about a specific application you implemented. For example: a security system you designed to thwart racoons, a monitoring system for an elderly person living independently, or some clever work with motors and TV mounts. Electronic House will pick several finalists from this category to use in the "EH Ideas" section in every issue of the magazine.
